This means that the sericin, which is a substance made from the silk moth that works as a natural protecting layer around the silk thread, has not been taken away. For other silk fabrics this has been washed away in a specific procedure.

The raw silk fabric can be dyed just as well as other silk fabrics and it is possible to find raw silk fabric in many different colors and with different patterns and decorations. There are also range of different textures to it,  there are raw silk fabrics made from the thinnest silk thread, woven into raw silk chiffon and there are also thicker raw silk fabrics, perhaps made from wild silk that gives a thick fabric that is suitable for furniture and house decorations more than clothes to wear.
